As fate would have it apparently, the American Radio Relay League's Field Day 2024 will get underway the very same day Marshall Ensor, 9BSP/W9BSP/W0BSP, would have turned 125 were he still with us, and members of the Santa Fe Trail Amateur Radio Club will be participating in this popular annual event as they join with fellow hams from across the country in fine-tuning their diverse communication skills for possible use in a future emergency.
The ARRL has chosen the quasi-directive "Be Radio Active" as the theme for this year's Field Day, which is scheduled to take place Saturday, June 22 and Sunday, June 23. And the seasoned operators of the SFTARC intend to do just that over the two-day period as they strive to make as many contacts as possible through multiple modes and under the club call sign of KSØKS.

Every year, just like clockwork, the SFTARC has brough a little bit of the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve to the rest of the amateur radio world. At the same time, we have brought the amateur radio into the public view. Those efforts have not gone unnoticed or unappreciated. As proof, the National Park Service has presented the SFTARC with a Volunteers-In-Parks Certificate to recognize our club's efforts for our May 2023 operation from the Tallgrass.
Some years the KS0KS call sign is used from the Tallgrass as a Special Event Station, with times and frequencies published in QST Magazine

Everyone loves a party - right? - and a party in the form of the annual Kansas QSO Party (KQP) will give members of SFTARC a chance to come to the so-called Sawyer Memorial Antenna Farm in Edgerton the weekend of Saturday, August 26 and Sunday, August 27.
The schedule for the 2023 Kansas QSO Party calls for on-the-air operations to begin at 9 a.m. on the 26th and continue until 9 p.m. that day. More of the same is planned for the 27th, but the final portion of the party will be an abbreviated one, as the search for contacts far and wide will start at 9 a.m. and conclude just six hours later at 3 p.m.

Operators and loggers are needed, so those who have a little time on their hands are encouraged to drop by Del Sawyer's vintage camper - party attire not required but always welcome - and do what they can to put the spotlight of attention on Kansas.
