A few members of the club, Jeff Darby, KSØJD, and Jim Andera, KØNK, among them, are serving as the teachers for an Extra license class that is being offered this winter at the Salvation Army's worship and service center near downtown Olathe.
The first session of the class was held the morning of Saturday, January 7 and drew more than 15 students, some of them members of the club, to the former Safeway grocery store along Santa Fe Street. There, Jeff, Jim and the other instructors will be covering specialized operating practices, advanced electronics theory and other related subjects over a two-month period.
For some of the students, the class represents an opportunity to acquire the knowledge needed to move up from the General license to the Extra license. For others who already hold the Extra license, the class serves as a good refresher course.
The class is scheduled to meet every Saturday in January and February from 8:30 a.m. to noon. The final session of the class, which will take place in early March, will be devoted to the administration of the test for the Extra license.
