MEETING TO ORDER:
President Jeff Darby, KSØJD, called to order the October, 2021, business meeting of the SFTARC at 7:54 AM. The meeting included 13 members who were physically present at the Gardner Perkins and 5 members who joined via Zoom, making a total of 18. (Quorum is 13.) There were no guests. The hybrid meeting linking people in Perkins with people at other locations continues to work well.
SECRETARY-TREASURER REPORT:
Marty Peters, KEØPEZ, reported the balances and transactions of the club accounts. We have completed the process of selling equipment belonging to SK Jim Anderson ACØOW and sending the proceeds to Rollie Anderson. One new member paid individual dues, and Marty paid the ARRL Store for five teacher's manual for the upcoming ham class.
A total of 68 members are paid up for 2021. Officers for 2022 will be elected at the November meeting of SFTARC.
Ensor Park & Museum [Marty - KEØPEZ]
Our club fulfilled its commitment to provide volunteer docents at Ensor in September. A local Rotary club toured the museum and held a social event on a recent Thursday evening. On September 21 Marty and Howard answered questions about the museum at a meeting of the Olathe Historical Society. The 16-minute film "Renaissance Man of Olathe" was one of two films shown at the meeting. The film showing sparked interest, and a group of 20 will visit the Ensor Park & Museum on Oct. 30.
Club Repeaters [Jim - KØNK]
Jim has attempted without success to contact OMC to get an update on their interest in locating repeaters there. There is no news about the possible site along I-35.
2021 POTA Special Event [Jim - KØNK]
Jim gave details of the POTA operating event to be held at Lone Elm Park to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the opening of the Santa Fe Trail. Both pavilions have been reserved by other groups, so the club will operate in the open field west of the pavilions from 10AM-3PM with two or three stations using several bands. The station will activate three POTA numbers simultaneously.
2022 SFTARC Ham Class - GENERAL
There will be no CW class in parallel with the General class, which will be conducted at the Salvation Army building on Santa Fe Street. Tuition for the class will be $20; tuition including the book will be $35; tuition for youth 16 and under will be $15.
OTHER BUSINESS:
Del suggested that we buy and install shelving units in the trailer to help organize the equipment. We should place the club logo and other identifying markings on the trailer to promote our club activities.
Jim installed a CW filter in the IC-746 that Ed Kurtz donated to the club.
Rollie Anderson donated to SFTARC all of the ACØOW equipment and items that have not yet been sold.
Joe KRØUT suggested that we apply to be designated as a Special Service Club (SSC) by the ARRL. There is no cost. An SSC is defined to be a club that goes "above and beyond for their communities and for Amateur Radio. They are the leaders in their Amateur Radio communities who provide active training classes, publicity programs and actively pursue technical projects and operating activities." The application form can be viewed at http://www.arrl.org/ssc-application.
ADJOURN:
President Jeff adjourned the meeting at 8:18 AM.
