MEETING TO ORDER:
President Jeff Darby, KSØJD, called to order the September, 2021, business meeting of the SFTARC at 7:45 AM. The meeting included 16 members who were physically present at the Gardner Perkins and 5 members who joined via Zoom. (Quorum is 13.) There were no guests. The hybrid meeting linking people in Perkins with people at other locations worked well.
SECRETARY-TREASURER REPORT:
Marty Peters, KEØPEZ, reported the balances and transactions of the club accounts. Proceeds of the sale of equipment belonging to SK Jim Anderson ACØOW have been deposited into the club account. An amount was deducted from these proceeds to reimburse Jeff for shipping items to the buyers. The balance of the proceeds has been sent to Rollie Anderson. One new member paid individual dues, and Marty paid the annual premium for equipment insurance. The club continues to be in a position to honor its commitment to support the club repeater project.
A total of 68 members are paid up for 2021.
Ensor Park & Museum [Marty - KEØPEZ]
The museum opened for the autumn tour season on Saturday, September 5, 2021. Traffic was good on both Saturday and Sunday. The Ensor property was busy on September 11. The club conducted two sessions of an antenna building workshop out by the peg barn while at the same time special event station W9UA was being operated in the radio room and tour groups were being shown around the farmhouse and outbuildings. More volunteer tour guides are needed. Please contact Howard N0AZ to sign up. City of Olathe crews have been repairing/maintaining some spots on the roof, some decorative railing, and a porch post.
Club Repeaters [Jim - KØNK]
Jim will approach OMC soon to get an update on their interest in locating repeaters there. OMC continues to be the best candidate as a partner in the repeater project. The Olathe Public Schools remain mildly interested. Jeff has been in contact with Dr Burns at OMC. The KC Heart radio installation at OMC; a contact person is Neal KA8MII.
Special Operating Event to Honor Loretta Ensor
On September 11, 2021, four operators honored the memory of Loretta Ensor by operating special event station W9UA in the radio room of the Ensor Park and Museum. YLs Peg Nichols KD0VQO and Jen Albright KE0VFG along with OMs Bob Schaumeyer KC0TZX and Marty Peters KE0PEZ made 30 contacts spread out over 11 states during the 5 hours on the air.
2021 Santa Fe Trail Special Event [Jim - KØNK]
SFTARC is on track for an operating event at Lone Elm Park on Oct. 9, 2021, to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the opening of the Santa Fe Trail. Jim will keep in touch with Olathe Parks, and hopefully one of the pavilions will not be reserved by another group. Even if the pavilion is not available, small generators and the club trailer will be there. The event will run 9AM-3PM with two or three stations using several bands. The station will activate three POTA numbers simultaneously.
KS QSO Party Report
The KSQP took place on August 28-29, 2021. Appreciation was expressed to Del for organizing successful KSØKS operations at the Sawyer Antenna Farm in Edgerton.
Operators there included Del KØDDS, Rob KØRU, Jeff KSØJD, Gil WAØYCY, Jim KØNK, Marty KEØPEZ, Bob KCØTZX, and Robert KCØKDG.
Operating at home, George WBØCNK, Howard NØAZ, Jeff, and Marty added some CW or FT8/FT4 contacts.
Total contacts on SSB, CW, and DIG were 603, 257, and 114, respectively, for a total of 974 contacts. KSØKS is a unique bonus station in the KS QSO Party, and, hence, does not compete against other clubs. However, this year we had the opportunity to operate a 1x1 station (WØE). Eric KJØD, Larry KDØRIU, and Jim KØNK made 382 contacts at the Ensor site while Ralph NØKC added another 68 contacts from his home station. The total contacts for WØE was 450. The group effort of our club produced 1,424 contacts.
2022 SFTARC Ham Class - GENERAL
Because of the uncertainty caused by Covid, we need to make a plan and a backup plan. The format may be in person, online, or hybrid. Marty will order 5 spiral-bound General textbooks for teachers. The CW class will not be taught at the same time, but will be postponed. Jim will contact the Salvation Army to find out if the classroom there is available in January and February.
OTHER BUSINESS:
Kody Wilnauer, newest member of SFTARC, introduced himself. He is an elementary school teacher in Olathe, and he has energy, good ideas, and grant-writing skills.
Jeff will organize an order of nametags, hats, and T-shirts. If you would like to have one of these items, please contact Jeff.
ADJOURN:
President Jeff adjourned the meeting at 8:23 AM.
