t's that time of year again, It's time for the annual Kansas QSO party. If you have never attended a contesting event this is the one for you. This was one of the first ones I attended and I found it very invigorating to be on the receiving end of a pile up. A place where people are actually trying to find you instead of the other way around.
The purpose of the Kansas QSO Party special event is to put Kansas on-the-air. Kansas is known as the Sunflower State and became the 34th state to be admitted into the Union on January 29, 1861.
This year’s Kansas QSO Party will be August 26-27, 2017. Saturday: 09:00-21:00, and Sunday: 09:00-15:00 (Central Time). The current Band plan is to operate voice on 20M around 14.240mhz, 40M around 7.240mhz, and 80M aroundd 3.740mhz. We will operate CW 20M around 14.240mhz, 40M around 7.240mhz, and 80M around 3.740mhz
- Hams running mobile will try to put all Kansas counties on the air. Hams using special 1X1 calls will be used to spell out KANSAS, SUNFLOWER, and QSOPARTY.
- Points are assigned and special antique stamped certificates and plaques are given to the participants and winners.
- Hams making contact with the Santa Fe Trail Amateur Radio Club’s KS0KS call sign will be awarded 100 bonus pts.
Members of the club, operating from their home QTHs as KS0KS, should submit their logs using the log naming format KS0KS-AC0KN-JOH.log, where KS0KS is the club call, AC0KN you’re personal call sign, and JOH is the three digit county abbreviation you’re in.
