MEETING TO ORDER:
President Jeff KSØJD called to order the September, 2023, business meeting of the SFTARC at 08:05 AM CDT. A total of 15 members attended, 11 joining in person at the Gardner Perkins and 4 joining via Zoom. (Quorum is 13.) There were no guests.
SECRETARY-TREASURER REPORT:
Marty KEØPEZ reported the current bank balance and reported the two expenditures during the past month, which were for equipment insurance and fuel for the generator. The club remains financially sound.
Repeater Update [Jim - KØNK]
Jim met with the representatives of a group that possibly has a site that we might use. we continue to explore tall buildings on ridges. Jeff pointed out that whatever solution we find, the recurring expense must be no greater than it was when the repeater was on Samaritan Towers.
A Gardner repeater on 147.195 MHz is available for club members to use. It uses the standard +600 kHz offset. At the moment no CTCSS tone is required, however it would be wise to program your radio to transmit a 151.4 Hz tone in case the CTCSS requirement is implemented later.
HOLLENBERG PONY EXPRESS FESTIVAL [Jim - KØNK]
Jim KØNK and Joe KRØUT had a decent day, made a dozen contacts, and kept busy talking to people.
KANSAS QSO PARTY
The 2023 event went well. Del KØDDS, Gil WAØYCY, Woody KEØNTU, and Bob KCØTZX operated as KSØKS at the SAF in Edgerton and made a total of 458 ssb QSOs. Greg KIØKK and Howard NØAZ operated KSØKS on FT8 and totaled 137 QSOs. Eric KJØD was again a workhorse, making 554 CW QSOs operating as KSØKS and adding 107 more CW QSOs as WØE. Thanks very much Eric for helping our club do its part to support the event. Larry KDØRIU and Ralph NØKC made a total of 186 FT8 QSOs operating as WØE, and Marty KEØPEZ added 23 CW QSOs operating as KSØKS. The KSØKS multiplier was 57, giving our club a KSØKS point total of 150,879.
Thanks to all who participated. Here are the results for KSØKS in tabular form:
2024 Ham Class
Last year our ham class was for the Amateur Extra level, so this year it will be for Technician. In the past we have sometimes combined the Tech class with a CW class. It is something to consider this year. Although teaching both is an attractive concept, a drawback is that it means that we have to ask more teachers than we normally need to take on the 8-week teaching commitment.
OTHER BUSINESS:
Jim will check with the Gardner Senior Center to identify a good date for a Christmas party.
ADJOURN:
After a motion to adjourn and a unanimous vote, President Jeff adjourned the meeting at 08:42 CDT.
