WW1USA - July 2017

Battle of Passchendaele July 22-23

Fellow club members:

We are going to host another Special Event for WW1USA on July 22-23 again this year. It willcommemorate the Battle of Passchendaele in 1917. For those, like me, who are not familiar with this battle it is officially known as the Third Battle of Ypres (pronounced e-press). Passchendaele is a small community south east of Ypres Belgium in West Flanders.

The attack by the allied infantry commenced on July 31 st and continued into November. This Battle is infamous for the mud and for the high casualties incurred. In a bit over three months 325,000 Allied and 260,000 German casualties were racked up.

Mark your calendar now to come down to the WW1 Memorial and Museum to operate one of the stations for a couple of hours. The event will be held inside the air-conditioned building using remote controlled stations. As before if you show a valid Amateur Radio license you may tour the museum for $5.00 each for yourself and three guests.

I will post another reminder about 2 weeks before the event as that will be when the online sign-up will open for club members.

I hope to see many of you down there for the event, it is something well worth doing!
