IRLP Operation and Protocol

The protocol for using any IRLP Node is as follows and much like using an auto patch on a repeater:

1.  LISTEN.......  Make sure no one is using the repeater.

2.  Request the use of the IRLP LINK. ie: "This is KE5BR requesting an IRLP Link"

3.  LISTEN....If no one responds then the repeater is not in use by someone else.

4.  DIAL the 4 Digit IRLP Node numbers you wish to call.  (4150 for Dallas, TX)

5.  Listen....You will hear an automated voice tell you "LINK ON"

6.  Make your call or call QRZ for any one listening.

Give a station on the other end a couple of minutes to respond –

You do not always respond immediately, don’t expect others to do so!

7.  When you are finished announce ie: "This is KE5BR bringing the link down”

8.  Dial 73 on your DTMF pad on the microphone.  (This disconnects the link)

9.  LISTEN... you will hear an automated voice say "LINK OFF"

10. Then either request another IRLP LINK or clear "This is KE5BR Clear with the IRLP LINK

and returning the repeater to its normal operation.

(This lets everyone listening know you are finished and that they can now use the repeater or link)

11. Have fun with the IRLP but please try not to tie the repeater up for extended periods of time

as others may want to use the repeater or link also.
