MEETING TO ORDER:

The President, Jeff Darby KE0CAZ, called the meeting to order at 7:30 AM. Attendees introduced themselves by name and call-sign. A total of 16 club members and 1 guest were present.

SECRETARY-TREASURER REPORT:

The Secretary-Treasurer Report was given by Marty Peters KE0PEZ.  He reported the checking account balance and the current amounts in the general fund and the repeater fund. The club revenue in September was a $20 dues payment from Bob Davidson. There was one disbursement of $223.68, the annual premium to ARRL Risk Strategies for equipment insurance.

Ensor volunteers [Marty Peters - KE0PEZ]

All docent slots were filled for the month of September. A group of blind hams visited on September 21, and they had a very good experience. The JCRAC will provide docents in October. Please spread the word to your friends and neighbors about this great community resource!

Club Newsletter [Greg Wolfe – KI0KK]

Newsletter inputs are due by 7PM Wednesday, October 9.

Kansas QSO Party [Jeff Darby KE0CAZ]

The Kansas QSO Party took place on August 24th and 25th. The final results will soon be forthcoming from Bob Harder.

Rules for the use of the KS0KS callsign [Jeff Darby KE0CAZ]

Before the next ham radio special event, we should finalize rules about the use of KS0KS. It was suggested by several that this callsign should only be used by hams who are a member of SFTARC. We will take further action on this matter at an upcoming meeting.

2020 SFTARC Ham Classes

The SFTARC will conduct a ham class in January and February of 2020 preparing students for the Extra Class FCC license. We are in the process of checking with the Salvation Army in Olathe to see if we can use their meeting room on Saturday mornings. We should prepare the advertising flier soon and begin distributing promotional material in November. There was a consensus among members that a CW class should not be taught at the same time as the Extra class and should be taught in tandem with the Technician class.

Repeater issues

Each of the three repeaters continues to operate in order to preserve the frequency; the repeater owners continue to seek permanent locations for the equipment. The repeaters are marginally accessible from Olathe. There is a strong hope by club members that these repeaters be sited so that they are in range of hams in Olathe.

SFTARC Officer Nominations

As of the nomination deadline of September 28, 2019, there was only one nomination for each of the three offices (Jeff for President, Larry for Vice-President, and Marty for Secretary/Treasurer). All three have stated in writing that they are willing to stand for the election of 2020 officers to take place at the annual business meeting on Nov. 2, 2019. Please come to the November meeting; that will be your chance to throw the bums out!

OTHER BUSINESS:

This meeting was held in the dining area outside the Market Grill, and there was quite a bit of background noise from the supermarket. Many of the club members had great difficulty hearing what was being said, and Gil proposed holding the monthly SFTARC meetings at the Gardner Perkins to alleviate this problem. His suggestion applies only the monthly meeting, with the weekly ragchews to continue inside the Market Grill (where there is less noise). The club will continue to evaluate this proposal.

ADJOURN:

After a motion, a second, and a unanimous vote, the meeting was adjourned at 7:50 AM.
